As UK Gov reaches out to tech, investors threaten to ‘pull capital’ over M&A regulator over-reach

As the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer engaged with the tech industry at a ‘Chatham House’ style event today, the Coalition for a Digital Economy (Coadec) think-tank released a survey of over 50 key investors which found startup investors are prepared to pull capital over the prospect of the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) new Digital Markets Unit (DMU) becoming a “whole-economy regulator by accident”. Investors are concerned after the CMA recommended the DMU be given ‘expanded powers’ regarding its investigations of M&A deals.

Nuro’s delivery autonomous vehicles (AVs) don’t have a human driver on board. The company’s founders Dave Ferguson (president) and Jiajun Zhu’s (CEO) vision of a driverless delivery vehicle sought to do away with a lot of the stuff that is essential for a normal car to have, like doors and airbags and even a steering wheel. They built an AV that spared no room in the narrow chassis for a driver’s seat, and had no need for an accelerator, windshield or brake pedals.

AI enhanced ID Verification, eKYC service Provider Jumio reports 150% revenue growth in Q2 2021

Jumio, an established provider of AI-enhanced end-to-end identity verification and eKYC services, reveals that its sales and revenue increased more than 150% during Q2 2021 when compared to Q2 2020. The growth has reportedly been fueled by “an ongoing need for modern enterprises to know and trust that their online users are who they claim to be.” As noted in a release shared with CI, this is “evidenced by the large growth seen in financial services, mobile delivery services and social platforms verifying everyone from customers to employees to influencers.”
